*CAUTION*
These are alpha installation discs of a developing operating system. Use at
your own risk and take the proper precautions.

About these images.

There images were produced using highly modified Debian's debian-cd and
boot-floppy packages. The baseHurd.tgz (the tarball) is now produced as part
of the boot-floppies build and is aways up to date.

A serious attempt has been made to ensure that the packages wanted by most
people are on the first CD. About a third of the binary-hurd-i386 packages
are now on the second CD.

Supported Hardware.

In theory these CDs should install Hurd on any i386 machine on which
Debian 2.2 can be installed using the CD-ROM or the alternative boot-disks.
Some hardware has problems in using apt. In these cases /var/cache/apt/*.bin
files should be deleted and <apt-get update> run before <apt-get install foo>
is attempted.

Nomenclature.

There are no Hurd releases as such and so these discs are a snap-shot of the
Debian Hurd mirror.
The release information and build date will be found in /.disk/info. The build
date is on the far right and usually follows within 24 hours of the last
update. The "G1nU" is the version. The letter refers to the version of the
boot-floppies scripts used to build the CD. The number refers to the version
of the debian-cd scripts used. As the Hurd is in a continuous state of flux
this can be expected to change frequently. "nU", if present, means that non-US
is included.
Thes discs are "Unofficial".

Updates.

It is my intention to update these discs every four to eight weeks.
