Uploading Instructions
Last Updated: 2 March 1998
There are 5 required fields for new uploads and 3 required fields for the README.
These are:
Submission |
README |
Name |
Name |
Version Number |
Version Number |
Platforms |
|
Content Summary |
|
.tar.gz or .tgz |
README (ASCII) |
Notes:
- These fields should be separated by a single `-' except for
the last field which should be preceded by a `.'
- All uploads should be accompanied by an ASCII README.
Other documentation formats may be used within the
.tar.gz file, but ASCII is readable by everyone
and takes the least diskspace of any format.
- The Version Number should be numerical
by convention, and normally is at least 2 digits.
1.0 is usually the first release number, although
some people use numbers such as 0.1 to indicate
an early release which may not be entirely stable.
The letters `a' and `b' are used for `alpha' and `beta'
releases. Alpha usually indicates an very early and
possibly unstable program. Beta usually indicates
a program which has bugs and may be unstable.
- Platforms: Rhapsody supports multiple platforms.
We use one-letter abbreviations for these platforms:
- P for PowerPC
- I for Intel Pentium (and compatibles)
- W for Yellowbox under Windows
- Content Summary is a one - three letter guide for
what is contained in the tar.gz file.
- b for compiled binaries
- s for source code
- d for documentation/distributions (this is for
programs which require some sort of
extra documentation above the normal helpfiles
for setup or use)
